Reds place Tyler Callihan on IL, recall Jacob Hurtubise, Lyon Richardson

The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Tyler Callihan on the 10-day injured list following a left forearm fracture suffered in Monday’s game in Atlanta.

The team recalled right-hander Lyon Richardson and outfielder Jacob Hurtubise and optioned right-hander Yosver Zulueta to Triple-A Louisville.

Callihan suffered the injury while attempting to make a catch in the 4-0 loss to the Braves. The 24-year-old, in just his fourth big-league game, immediately came off the field. After the game, Reds manager Terry Francona said Callihan would return to Cincinnati on Tuesday and was expected to have surgery to repair multiple broken bones in his forearm.

Zulueta pitched the ninth inning of Monday’s game. Richardson pitched three perfect innings in the team’s 9-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of a doubleheader last Wednesday.

Hurtubise started the season in Cincinnati as an extra outfielder and pinch-runner. The 27-year-old played in nine games for the Reds in the first month with one hit in nine plate appearances. He started one game.

Richardson, 25, appeared in two games for the Reds during his brief callup last month, allowing one run in four innings on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.
